You did a great job designing my brochure - but when I print it from the CD you sent me, the print out has a white edge all the way around the sheet and it doesn't look good. Why does it do that and how do I tell the printer to print the ink all the way to the edge of the paper?

Answers:
How many printed brochures come with the Marketing Made Easy package?
None, actually. The Marketing Made Easy package provides only design of the four products: a brochure, a logo, a postcard and a business card. After the design is all completed, the printing would be the next step. If our clients are satisfied with both the service we've provided and the quality of product, we certainly hope we will be chosen to print their products. However, our clients are under no obligation to print with First Place Publishing.

If I decide to have you print my brochures, what type of paper are they printed on?
The brochures will be printed on a nice, bright white 100# gloss text stock. While there are other stocks that are thinner, a nice 100# text stock will be thicker than other 60-80# stocks. Thinner stocks will feel flimsy, this stock will feel 'meaty' and sturdy. For more information on brochure printing specifications, click on our Brochure Printing page.

After my Marketing Made Easy package is completed, how do I get my files?
Your files will be mailed to you on CD. Once you receive the CD, you will be able to open, view and print your files directly from your computer using the approved PDF files we created. If you want to be able to download the completed files immediately, you can choose to have all the files placed on our FTP server instead of having them sent to you on CD.

You designed my logo and I have a web site. Can the logo be used on my web page?

Yes. The logo file we give you is a high-resolution TIF that can be used in all your marketing products, such as in flyers, letterheads, magazine ads, newspaper ads, etc. Since web pages only use JPG or GIF images, you will need to convert the TIF file into JPG or GIF format. Your web designer will be able to do this without a problem whatsoever. For a minimal fee we'll also be able to give you a JPG or GIF if you'd like - just let us know.

Can I print these designs from my own computer from the files on CD?
Yes. Once you receive your CD in the mail, the final products will be sent in both the native format and also in PDF format. The brochures, postcards and business cards are designed using the program Adobe InDesign. These InDesign files would be used by commercial printers if you want them to print your brochures, postcards, or business cards. If you intend on printing directly from your computer, instead of using the InDesign files (because chances are you do not have InDesign), we supply you with the completed files in PDF format for you to print from.

Can I speak directly to my graphic designer working on my job or am going to get bounced around to different people in different departments?

Since your order will be created by one graphic designer, we see no reason why you should be bounced around from department to department. Your job will have one graphic designer - and your graphic designer will be your main contact. Should you have any questions once you send in your job, you will be able to speak directly to him or her.

Once I send in my order form with my selections, do I get to see a proof before the files are sent to me in the mail on CD?

Yes. Before we mail out the finished products on CD, you will be sent PDF proofs via email to check our work. You will be able to carefully proofread each product before it is mailed out to you. If you find something that we misspelled or mistyped, simply email back the changes and we'll make the corrections. Only after you've given us your final approval will we mail out your completed files on CD.

I have a picture from my neighborhood that I would like to use as my background for my products. Do I have to use your backgrounds or can I supply my own?

No ... you are not forced to use only our backgrounds. In fact, we encourage you to send in your own backgrounds. Why?  Because it allows you extra customization that will make your product even more appealing than if you chose a background that wasn't specific to your area. There is no extra charge to send in your own photographic background. For more information on this topic, please view our How To Use Your Own Backgrounds page.

My pictures are photographs from the studio ... but they are not on disk. Do you charge for scanning pictures? If so, how much?

Yes - we charge $50 per photo that needs to be scanned. Most photographers these days are taking pictures with their digital cameras and supply their clients with photos on disk. Tell your photographer you want your photos saved on disk in TIF format in high resolution.

After the design is done, is it easy to have you print these up?
Yes - it is very easy to order your printing through First Place Publishing. Simply call us up, ask for the printing order form, and fax it back to us. That's it. The order form is as simple as can be: simply check the box next to the quantity you desire, fill out your credit card and shipping address, and fax it back to us at (864) 349-2108. Even easier is to order your printed producst via our website online shopping cart. That's it ... it couldn't be easier!

I just received your Marketing Made Easy package in the mail. I have already made my selections and I've filled out the order forms. However, my office is moving in a few weeks and I'll be having a new address and phone numbers. Do I have to send the package in right away - or can I wait a month or so?

No ... you do not have to send in your order forms right away. While other companies force you to mail your order forms within three months, we give you up to a year to send it in. We understand that things come up and that different situations push back the ability to send in your order, such as an office moving, a new internet address coming soon, or new area codes coming to your area. We try to be as flexible as possible with you when ordering your designed products.

What program do you use to create the brochures?
Adobe InDesign (Windows PC version). The brochures, postcards, and business cards are designed using this great program. Logos are a little different ... and are designed using either Adobe PhotoShop or Adobe Illustrator ... depending on the content of the logo.

Regarding digital pictures, what resolution do I need for sharp printing?
If you are at the photo studio getting pictures done, tell the photographer to save them at a minimum of 300 dpi and at a size of 5" x 7" or larger. Commercial printers need a minimum of 300 dpi (dots per inch) at regular 100% size to print clearly. This means that if your brochure has a 2" x 3" photo of you, this photograph will need to be at 300 dpi at 2" x 3" size.

A photograph can be reduced without losing any quality or sharpness. However, if a 300 dpi image needs to be enlarged to twice the size, this process actually cuts the resolution in half - resulting in a 150 dpi image.

Therefore, it is important to make sure your 300 dpi images are at the size they will be used in the marketing products. An image of 10" x 16" at 72 dpi is the same as an image of 2.5" x 4" at 300 dpi. Whenever you scale an image size (enlarge or reduce), the resolution is adjusted accordingly. If you make an image smaller, the resolution increases. If you make an image larger, the resolution decreases.

I have my own digital camera. Can I send in my own digital pictures?
Yes. However, keep in mind that in order to have your pictures print cleanly and sharp on a printing press, they need to be at a high resolution. If the highest quality settings are used on a digital camera, a typical 3 megapixel camera will provide good enough quality pictures for commercial printing. Images should be 300 dpi or more ... and the image size we request should be 5" x 7" or larger. If your digital camera is less than 3 megapixels, the quality will most likely be too poor and not sufficient for commercial printing.

NOTE: keep in mind that although many cameras have sufficient resolution, they still take photos that simply don't look very good; may it be the coloring, shading, focus or other elements, sometimes photos taken by anyone other than a professional photographer might not come out as nice. Our recommendation: use a professional photographer. These pictures will become part of your brand identity and you'll use these photos on all of your marketing products.

Your Marketing Made Easy brochure product has a whole lot of paragraphs to choose from - but I want to write some ones on my own. Do I have to use your text paragraphs or can I supply you with my own?

You can supply your own content if you wish ... at no extra charge. If you want to adjust some of our content text paragraphs, feel free. By allowing you to write your own content, this will provide even further customization of your products.

If I decide to buy your Marketing Made Easy package but don't like it after I look over, can I return it to you for a refund?

Yes - you can return it for a full refund - but only if you send it back quickly. We offer a seven day money back guarantee on our Marketing Made Easy package. After you receive your Marketing Made Easy package (which usually comes with a book and CD), simply return the product in its original condition before the seven day period has expired. If we receive it within seven days, we will issue a refund. However, no refunds will be given after seven days have passed or if any design work has started on your order.

There are eight agents in my office that also want to order your package. Do you offer quantity discounts?

Yes ... we offer discounts if there are five or more packages ordered at the same time. Please give us a call at (800) 423-2049 to let us know your situation and we'll let you know your quantity discounted pricing.

I don't want to spend the full $699.95 for the entire Marketing Made Easy package because I am only interested in buying a brochure. Can I buy just the individual products alone? Or do I have to buy the entire MME package?

Yes ... you can buy any product individually. Although the full Marketing Made Easy package is economically the best deal, you can certainly purchase the products at their individual stand-alone prices. See the Marketing Products section for more information.

I have a scanner at home to scan my photographs for you to use. What scanner settings should I use to give me the best possible scans?

Color Images should be scanned at 400 dpi at their normal size. All images sent to us should be sent at the size they will be used. For example, if you have a company color logo that is to be placed on the brochure back panel with dimensions of 1" x 2", you will want to scan your image to be a 1" x 2" image at 400 dpi. If you have a single color line-art image (not a color or B&W photograph) it should be scanned as "Line-Art" using 1200 dpi. If you have any questions about resolution or scanning, feel free to call us at (800) 423-2049 and we'll be happy to assist you.

You did a great job designing my brochure - but when I print it from the CD you sent me, the print out has a white edge all the way around the sheet and it doesn't look good. Why does it do that and how do I tell the printer to print the ink all the way to the edge of the paper?

Printers cannot print all the way to the edge of the paper. The machine needs to "grip" the paper to be able to pull it through the machine. The area of the paper that it holds on to is called the "gripper area" and no printing can be done in the gripper area. In order for your end product to look like the ink went all the way to the edge, the printed product will have to be trimmed at the edges.

Basically, the white edges around the sides will need to be cut off. To achieve the best looking products with ink that goes all the way to the edge (this is called "full bleeds"), your products should be created and printed at a commercial printing company. Commercial printers print on larger than normal paper and cut off the edges, thus resulting in the final, finished size of 8.5" x 11" for your brochures.
